Who We Are


Rita Schweitz consults nationally and internationally with organizations and communities to build capacity for wise decision-making, effective planning, and productive implementation. From board meetings to conferences to large community events, she helps her clients use their time efficiently and productively. By establishing an atmosphere in which everyone can both listen and be heard, she prompts participants to stay on task, develop a deep understanding of important issues, find common ground and move quickly to plan actions that will be implemented.

Rita is a Certified Professional FacilitatorT, a highly-regarded designation of the International Association of Facilitators. She is a leading practitioner in the facilitation of large group, whole system methods, including Future Search, World Café, and Open Space Technologies. Utilizing, blending, and customizing large group methods, she facilitates groups to fully engage in important conversations and to take responsibility for collaboration and action.

Rita's work has produced significant and enduring results. She helped a litigious group of stakeholders of the Headwaters of the Colorado River to find common ground, work collaboratively to produce a water-quality plan, and continue to work together on critically important issues for over 18 years. She assisted the University of Florida, College of Dentistry to plan a new clinical dental education model which they promptly implemented along with other significant recommendations. She helped the Ute Mountain Utes envision a better future for their youth and then obtain a $10 million grant to realize that future. Additionally she has worked with UN Agencies, MCI, Nissan of North America, multiple educational systems, communities, indigenous peoples, non-profit and other organizations.

With over 20 years of national and international experience, Rita skillfully focuses on whole system change, involving diverse stakeholders and emphasizing client ownership of both the process and the implementation of results. Rita has a wide network of local, national, and international experts with whom she partners, depending on the requirements of each project.

Rita is co-author / editor of Future Search in School District Change, a contributing author to the seminal book on large group meetings, The Handbook of Large Group Methods, and author of numerous journal articles. Rita received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a Masters in Counseling from the University of Colorado. She continues to attend and offer training courses and conferences that teach and exploring productive facilitation.
